The name of the town is derived from a local Norsemen chief, Brunder.
Brønderslev is one of Denmark's newest official market towns. The city was originally named Vester Brønderslev.
Today Brønderslev is populur railway- and shopping city in Vendsyssel with approx. 12.600 inhabitants and the largest city in Brønderslev Municipality as well as the 4th largest in Vendsyssel. The city is easily accessible from highway E39 both from north and south, and the train drives right to the city centre.
